20 Health Benefits of Therapeutic-grade Essential Oils
Pure organic therapeutic-grade Young Living essential oils can be used in
more ways than the typical novelty aromatherapy oils sold in stores are used
(please do not use another essential oil the same way you would use a YL oil ,
you will NOT get the same results).
Here is a list of some ways that YL oils can be used to promote good health…
1. Affect the psyche
The aroma of essential oils triggers physiological and psychological responses. They lift our moods, aid in fighting mild to moderate depression, increase alertness, calm aggressive behavior, and help to deal with trauma. Essential oils also lower anxiety, increase memory, and even afffect our dreams.
Young Living single oils: lemon, lavender, orange, bergamot, rose, jasmine
Young Living blends: Awaken, Joy, Believe, Harmony, Citrus Fresh, Trauma Life, SARA, Release, Magnify Your Purpose, Peace & Calming, Into the Future, Highest Potential
2. Immune protection
Researchers suggest that certain essential oil constituents mimic human immunoglobulin. Essential oil constituents may also elevate levels of lymphocytes and stimulate the immune system.
Young Living single oils: chamomile, clove, mountain savory, lemon, Ravensara
Young Living blends: Thieves, R.C., Melrose, Di-Gize, Raven, EndoFlex
3. Antimicrobial
In an age where antibiotics are failing due to excessive use, we turn to the plant kingdom for help. Research indicates that essential oils are highly effective against bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites. Studies find that essential oils are even effective against the superbug MRSA (lemongrass, R.C. the best), a bacteria that is resistant to most antibiotics, including penicillin.
Young Living single oils: lemongrass, geranium, clove, melissa, thyme, eucalyptus, rosemary
Young Living blends: Breathe Again Roll-On (congestion), Thieves, Purification, R.C.
4. Assist in natural pain relief
Essential oils may be gently massaged into sore and tired muscles or made into a compress and applied with heat. They may also enhance the production of endorphins and activate neurotransmitters in the brain that alleviate pain.
Young Living single oils: Idaho balsam fir, black pepper, peppermint, ginger, lavender, Palo Santo, wintergreen
Young Living blends: Deep Relief Roll-On, PanAway, Motivation, Sacred Mountain, Aroma Siez, EndoFlex
Inflammation is the root of most chronic diseases. Inflammation is caused by several conditions, including bacteria, poor diet, injuries, reaction to chemicals, and hormonal imbalances. Essential oils possess potent anti-inflammatory properties.
Young Living single oils: chamomile, fennel, Idaho balsam fir, peppermint, helichrysum, wintergreen, juniper, thyme, mountain savory, spearmint, clove
Young Living blends: Purification, Aroma Siez, Melrose, Relieve It, Exodus II
6. Reduce stress and anxiety
Excessive tension, stress, and anxiety are all emotions often associated with chronic illnesses, including cancer. Essential oils are known to soothe the soul, bringing calmness, peace, and balance without negative side effects – studies done on the stress and anxiety effects of lemon essential oil in dental patients.
Young Living single oils: lemon, lavender, frankincense, clary sage, Roman chamomile
Young Living blends: Peace & Calming, Dragon Time, Gentle Baby
7. Insomnia
In 1988, the International Journal of Aromatherapy stated, “Lavender Beats Benzodiazepines”. Lavender is reported to promote sleep, enhance relaxation, and decrease anxiety. Pure lavender can be sprinkled on a pillowcase to promote peaceful sleep. Other essential oils may also be beneficial.
Young Living single oils: lavender, valerian, Roman chamomile, frankincense, marjoram, clary sage, cistus
Young Living blends: Peace & Calming, Tranquil Roll-On, Dream Catcher, Gentle Baby, Harmony
8. Rejuvenate skin
For thousands of years essential oils have restored, rejuvenated, and improved the appearance of aging, wrinkled skin. Modern use improves a number of skin conditions including acne, clogged pores, dry skin, eczema, freckles.
Young Living single oils: valerian, lavender, Roman chamomile, geranium, sandalwood, frankincense, cypress
9. Protect against colds and influenza
Because of their antimicrobial actions, essential oils help protect against colds and flu, and are highly effective for respiratory support. Essential oils inhaled, taken in cough syrups, and taken internally strongly affect lung, ear, nose, and throat problems.
Young Living single oils: lemon, eucalyptus, peppermint, rosemary, frankincense, ravensara
Young Living blends: Thieves, Purification
10. Soothe digestive disorders
Essential oils are soothing and effective for digestion when rubbed onto the abdominal area. Small amounts, taken internally provide relief for nausea, indigestion, heartburn, gas, diarrhea, and irritable bowel disease.
Young Living single oils: lemon, mountain savory, oregano, peppermint, ginger, fennel, chamomile
Young Living blend: Di-Gize, Exodus II, Thieves
11. Support the circulatory system
Blood carries oxygen and nutrients to every body cell. A healthy vascular system is free of clots, arteriosclerosis, and broken veins. Essential oils promote a healthy circulatory system.
Young Living single oils: cypress, German chamomile, myrtle, helichrysum, grapefruit, basil, ylang ylang, spikenard, geranium, marjoram, nutmeg
Young Living blends: Aroma Life, JuvaFlex, SclarEssence, Mister
12. Assist the endocrine system
The endocrine system is an interconnected dance of glands and hormones. If one member of this delicate system loses pace with the rest, all become stressed. Essential oils bring balance to glands such as the thyroid, pituitary, pineal, ovaries, testes, and adrenals.
Young Living single oils: helichrysum, lemon, clove, rosemary, spearmint
Young Living blends: EndoFlex, En-R-Gee, Humility
13. Support urinary system
The eighth edition of Useful Drugs, published by the American Medical Association in 1930, listed a number of essential oils that were rubbed into the kidney area or taken internally (1-2 drops) to help with common urinary, kidney, and bladder infections.
Young Living single oils: tarragon, lemon, oregano, mountain savory, thyme, rosemary, clove
Young Living blends: Di-Gize, EndoFlex, R.C., Melrose, Thieves
Young Living essential oil tincture: K&B (item #3262)
14. Soothe burns, sunburns, minor cuts, and scrapes
Rene-Maurice Gattefosse (1881-1950) the father of aromatherapy, tells of an explosion in his laboratory that covered his arms in severe burns. He rinsed the burns with lavender essential oils, and they began healing the very next day. Only therapeutic-grade essential oils are antiseptic and cleansing to minor cuts and scrapes.
Caution: do NOT use cheap lavender for burns as it will cause the opposite results!
For burns: Young Living lavender.
Young Living single oils: lavender, geranium, helichrysum, mountain savory
Young Living blends such as: Melrose, Purification, Thieves
15. Excellent choice for oral and dental care
More bacteria live on the back of the tongue than any other part of the body. Proper cleaning and flossing do more than protect the teeth, which is precisely why Young Living developed the “edible” and highly effective Thieves Dental Care product line! Research indicates that oral bacteria can cause heart disease. Essential oils are often major ingredients in mouthwash and dental care products that kill the microbes that cause tooth decay.
Oils such as: clove, myrrh, thyme, peppermint
A word on Clove essential oil: many essential oil companies use the essential oil of clove leaves and/or bark for their essential oil because it is cheaper. While these essential oils ‘may’ smell good to the untrained nose.
The truth is… ONLY the essential oil from the Clove ‘bud’ contains the beneficial constituents.
If you’re not using Clove essential oil that is distilled properly and from the ‘bud’ you are wasting your money and you’re NOT getting the therapeutic benefits you could be getting. This is one reason why Young Living Essential Oils are the best aromatherapy essential oils your money can buy.
16. Hair health
Many shampoos and personal care items contain harmful ingredients, such as propylene glycol (antifreeze) and sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), the main chemical in degreasers. SLS may corrode hair follicles and impair hair growth. SLS is stored in fatty tissue of the heart, liver, lungs, and brain. Essential oils are effective for hair rejuvenation and may help get rid of dandruff, itchy, flakey scalp issues.
Young Living single oils: sandalwood, rosewood, rosemary, ylang ylang, lemon, lavender, sage, cedarwood
17. More alert and focused
Many scientific studies have been performed on the value of therapeutic essential oils and their positive effect on the brain. Learn more about why smelling essential oils, i.e., aroma-therapy, has such beneficial effects.
Young Living single oils: frankincense, sandalwood, cedarwood, lavender, orange, lemon, peppermint, rosemary
Young Living blends: Brain Power, En-R-Gee, Clarity
18. Protect against cancer
A vast amount of research indicates that constituents of essential oils may play a major role in cancer prevention and act as an adjunct to cancer therapies. Numerous studies on essential oils seem promising for specific types of cancer.
Another way Young Living Essential Oils can protect against cancer is that by using them, you’re more than likely NOT using something else that causes cancer! So rather than use questionable products that are known cancer causing agents, you can simply use an essential oil in place of a toxic product – learn more about switching over.
Young Living single oils: frankincense, lemon, orange, lemongrass, clary sage, bergamot, helichrysum, clove, tsuga, lavender.
19. Alternative to toxic household cleaners
There is plenty of research on common household cleaners as possible reasons for the 55% increase in cancer for women who work as homemakers. Very powerful antimicrobial activities of therapeutic-grade essential oils make them a natural alternative to chemical household cleaners and disinfectants.
Young Living single oils: clove, lemon, cinnamon bark, eucalyptus, rosemary, thyme.
Young Living blends: Thieves, Purification, Citrus Fresh, Thieves Household Cleaner.
20. First Aid
Essential oils were humankind’s first medicine so it only makes sense that many have rediscovered what our ancestors knew so well, how the plant kingdom can help our bodies heal. The ways therapeutic-grade essential oils can be used in the First Aid kit are many and varied, the above is just a small sampling.
Young Living has a few kits that are a good start for those looking to get into holistic and complimentary healing and health. The kits are: Essential 7, Everyday Oils, and Golden Touch I.
EXTRA: Dipping Oil (for bread)
In a small dipping bowl put 1 oz. of olive oil and one drop of either Mountain Savory, oregano, thyme, marjoram, or basil. Set dipping bowl on table so everyone can dip as desired.
Using Young Living essential oils safely:
Be sure to use a carrier oil (a vegetable oil such as Young Living’s V-6) with your YL oils, the essential oils are extremely concentrated and you should never use more than 1-4 drops with a tablespoon of carrier oil.
Keep all essential oils away from eyes. If an essential oil gets into the eyes apply a little olive oil to dilute – NEVER use water to dilute an essential oil.
Do not use peppermint, or any of the hot/spicy essential oils on an open wound.
Do not use essential oils directly on babies or children under the age of 5, if epileptic, or pregnant without first consulting your doctor.
Disclaimer: this article is for your better understanding of holistic health, and is not intended to diagnose, treat or prescribe. If you are experiencing discomfort seek proper medical attention. This article also ONLY refers to the Young Living brand of essential oils – others may be adulterated and contain toxins and thus should never be used the same way as a YL oil.

* Clove, Lemongrass, Mountain Savory, Oregano, Peppermint, Rosemary, Sage, Thyme, and Wintergreen are oils that you will want to dilute with an equivalent amount of a quality vegetable oil.
This essential oil use chart addresses the most common health issues any family may face. Although it is comprehensive, it by no means covers all the possibilities regarding essential oil uses.
There are other oils that can be used for many of these
conditions, and there are other conditions that could be mentioned as well.
For an excellent reference that goes beyond this chart and gives
further information about essential oils and their uses, I recommend the Essential Oils Desk Reference (4th edition) or the Reference Guide to Essential Oils.
An ideal way to get started
with essential oils is with Young Living's Everyday Oil Kit. This kit
includes the basic oils needed to address everyday issues, many of which are
mentioned in the Essential Oil Use Chart above.
